Coaches

Fergus Cullen.

Girls Cross Country Head Coach

Biography:

Fergus Cullen is beginning his sixth season as the coach for the girls cross country team here at Oyster River.  This marks his 17th year coaching high school cross country.  During that time, he has also coached track and field at the high school, middle school, and youth levels.

Coach Cullen had this to say about coaching at Oyster River:  "The cross country program at ORHS has a decades-long tradition of excellence, and each class continues that. We benefit from high participation rates and student/parent commitment. We have an enormous team for a school our size."

In his spare time, Coach Cullen works hard at being a good husband, father, and provider.  He is also an accomplished hiker, about to finish his second lap of the 48 4,000 foot peaks in New Hampshire.  He is also in the process of exploring the concept for his second book.

Scott McGrath.

Boys Cross Country Head Coach

Biography:

Coach Scott McGrath is excited to be teaching and coaching at Oyster River.  This season will be his debut as the assistant indoor track coach while this school year will see Coach McGrath in his first year as a social studies teacher at OR.  Coach McGrath comes to OR with eight years coaching experience in distance running both in the high school ranks as well as operating a private coaching business.  This past fall season he led the boys cross country team to prominence in Division II.

Even with limited exposure to the school and the team, Coach McGrath is already discovering that Oyster River is a great place.  He says that "I find the kids on the cross country team to be highly respectful, coachable, and motivated to be the best they can be, which has been a plus this preseason.  The tradition of excellence at OR is evident among the boys as we're ranked fourth in the state and aim to exceed that ranking come late October."

When not coaching, Coach McGrath likes to hike, read historical fiction, cook, and travel with his wife.
